Glen Edward Beairsto March 17th 1932 - January 30th 2017
Glen died suddenly after coming in from working outside. He had a good day and spoke with his brother and daughters earlier in the day.
Dad was a man that loved life; He loved his family, friends, and animals. We will miss his love, generosity, kindness, guidance and his quick wit.
He was born in Egremont Alberta, the oldest of 4 boys (Glen, Linwood, Larry, and Vernon). As a young boy he helped his father with chores and his mother with his brothers and work around their small farm. In his middle childhood he was diagnosed with pernicious anemia and the local doctor is credited with saving his life. The family moved to Dapp Alberta in 1939 and dad enjoyed his later childhood there. In 1949 he set out on his own. He tried his hand at many jobs; working in hardware stores, As a purser on a supplies boat, mining and finally settling on pipefitting as a trade. He was a 50yr member of the plumbers and pipefitters union.
in 1954 he met the love of his life, Hilda, at a valentines dance and six months later they were married. Glen and Hilda created a beautiful home and garden in Burnaby on Strawson Street; a home where many family events were celebrated, oh those summer garden parties. In 1962 we were born, their twin daughters (Val and Heather) and we created a new era of crazy adventures for mom and dad. we vacationed as a family to our cabin on Pender Island, took driving vacations to various places in Canada and the US. What great family fun we had.
In the early 90's Mom and Dad became grandparents with the birth of Heather's daughter Sydney, soon followed by Conner, Jeffrey, and Hayley. Dad became a grandpa with great gusto. He loved his grandchildren and encouraged them to be honest, and compassionate; to challenge the world and seek adventure. He was an especially good listener and his grandchildren found great comfort in his old soul wisdom.
Mom passed away in February 1998 and dad missed her dearly. Glen moved into a suite with Val and Family in 2002. He also reconnected with a family friend also newly widowed and he and Eileen had a number of good years of travel and social fun. Unfortunately Eileen developed Alzheimers and dad saw her through the agony of her deterioration to her death 4 years ago.
In 2015 Dad moved again with Val and Family to a humble suite on Val's dream 5 acres. He began to help with clearing and cleaning up the place. He was hoping to see the new house built this year, and had great plans for his new suite over the garage.
He will remain in our hearts and is profoundly missed by his daughters, Val (Jeff) and Heather (Chris) as well as his grandchildren, Sydney, Conner, Jeffrey, and Hayley: and Eileen's children Sandi and Steve; His brothers, Lin (Sandra), Larry, Vernon (Lois) and their families and his many extended family and friends.
In his honor if you'd like to make a donation Dad's Favorite charities were the BC Children's Hospital and the SPCA.
