Joan was born in South Africa and immigrated to Canada in 1967. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, John Danby on November 25, 2015. She is survived by her sister Patricia (Woods) of Kamloops, Roger (brother-in-law) and Roger's children Jonathan and Melinda and grandchildren Jalal and Khadije. Joan studied at the University of Capetown College of Music, and made her operatic debut at the age of eighteen. Joan took teacher's training in South Africa and went to England where she took singing courses at the Guildhall School of Music and taught general studies part-time. Joan worked for many years to her retirement as a part-time as a music teacher at Blacklock and Topham elementary schools in Langley, BC. In 1982 Joan began a very long career conducting the Rainbow Choir and also gave singing performances with accompanist and friend Donna McTaggart. Joan loved many things, her husband John, her family, their border collie Tosca, singing, teaching children, cooking and entertaining guests, spinning and weaving wool from the sheep they raised, knitting, making Christmas ornaments, and travelling the world. A Memorial Service will be held at the Murrayville site of The United Churches of Langley, 21562 Old Yale Road, Langley, V3A 4M8 (Corner of 216th Street & 48th Avenue), date to be confirmed.
