The family settled in Kaslo, BC in February 1942. After the war, Mary was fundamental is assisting Zennosuke in petitioning to have his land successfully returned to him. Mary’s passion for service led her to pursue a career in nursing. Later in her golden years that passion continued through volunteerism at various local Vancouver charities. The family has fond memories of Christmas gatherings and feasting on Japanese cuisine, which was Mary’s favorite food. Mary is survived by her nephews: Robert, Derrick, Randy, Barry and Kelvin.
