NUNODA, Toyo
With great sadness we announce the passing of Toyo Nunoda (nee Fushimi), age 90, on September 7, 2016, following a stroke.

Toyo was born on October 15, 1925 in Shizuoka, Japan and came to Canada with her parents at the age of four, settling in Smithers, BC. After a happy life growing up in Smithers, Toyo attended the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Honours English. She remained in London, working in the Department of National Defence. On April 15, 1950 she married Art Nunoda and they started a family a few years later. In 1959 they moved to BC to join her parents in Smithers, where Toyo later became a social worker with the provincial Ministry of Human Resources. Shortly after her husband's death in 1992, Toyo moved to Vancouver, BC to be closer to her children.

Toyo always had a stack of library books by her bed ready to read, and she became a Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. She leaves behind many dear friends from her years playing bridge at the Vancouver Bridge Centre and the Jewish Community Centre.

She is predeceased by her husband Art and her son James. She is survived by her daughters Ellen and Elizabeth and her sister June Donnelly.

We wish to thank her family physician Dr. Warren Murschell and the doctors and nurses who looked after Mom at Burnaby Hospital.

No funeral service by request. There will be a private graveside service. For online condolences, please visit www.valleyviewsurrey.ca
