Werner Otto Molzahn passed suddenly into the presence of the Lord surrounded by his family on February 13th, 2017 in Surrey, BC. at the age of 59. Werner leaves a lasting legacy of love and devotion to his faith, family and friends.
Werner was born on May 8, 1957 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the Women’s Pavilion to Otto and Cecilia (Engel) Molzahn. He was the oldest of four children.
Werner’s greatest joy was his family with wife, Debbie, whom he married on November 28, 1986, and two children, Joel and Carolyn. Deb was the love of his life and they were fortunate to have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this past November. Werner’s love and devotion to Deb was constant and never more evident as when she went through health issues. He was her faithful companion and caregiver, and he and the kids filled the house with lots of laughter and fun.
He had a passion for learning and an interest in various topics. He obtained his Journeyman Carpenter (Red Seal) from Red River College in 1979; his Gold Seal Certificate - Project Manager in 1995; his Master Certificate in Concrete Construction Management in 1997; his Advanced Toastmasters Bronze in 2000. He was very proud of the Sustainable Farming Certificate from Kwantlen Polytechnic University that he received in 2016, when he fulfilled a lifelong desire to actively engage in farming. He encouraged his kids to participate in learning and obtain a higher education and to develop themselves to reach their greatest potential.
Joel and Carolyn were the apple of his eye and he couldn’t have been prouder of the adults they have become. When they were young, he always made a point of tucking his kids into bed every night and spending quality time talking with them. He taught them work ethic, integrity and financial responsibility by leading with example and making the pennies scream.
As a young man, Werner enjoyed road trips; he loved driving across North America, where he went to Mexico, Texas, California, BC, and the Maritimes with friends and family. We also loved to go camping and canoeing where we would pack his truck as full as he could to ensure he was prepared for every situation.
Werner spent his professional life in the construction industry, which moved him and his family from Winnipeg, Mb. to B.C, where he was first a Project Manager and ultimately owner of Mar-Will Construction (2007) Ltd.
More recently, Werner proudly wore the title of “Mr. Mom” as a badge of honour, embracing the opportunity to show his family love by staying at home and doing all the little things. Although many of his meals were made with love, not precision, they were always appreciated. His family loved having him home and they treasure the love, care, and commitment that he had for them. Joel and Carolyn love that he was a constant presence in their lives and he was there to share in all their life memories.
Werner lived and breathed his commitment to the Lord in everything he did; striving to follow in his Dad and Mom’s strong example in serving God. He spent countless hours contributing to his church community, starting with assisting his dad in his youth with Sunday school and electronics for services; being a part of church construction teams; being Head Usher; participating in community outreach; and serving on church boards.
Blessed for having shared Werner’s life is his wife of 30 years, Deb, their two children Joel and Carolyn; his mother Cecilia (Engel) Molzahn, his brother David (Karin) Molzahn, and sisters Linda (Bert) Jeske and Carla (Randy) Redmann. He will also be missed by his in-laws Jim and Mary Leibfried, Bryan (Sherry) Leibfried, Joe (Wendy) Leibfried, and Ann Leibfried (Richard Groen); his aunts Erna (Arthur) Wegner, Selma (Arthur) Blum and Lydia Engel; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Werner was pre-deceased by his father Otto Molzahn; his grandparents Friedrich and Amalie Molzahn and Rudolph and Olga Schmidt; and his brother-in-law Ed Leibfried.
Werner will be buried at Brookside Cemetery close to his father.
